I've been meaning to write another blog before the start of NaNoWriMo.
I wanted to try and drum up some more interest in what I'm doing. I wanted to gather up a few more ideas for stories. I wanted to prove that I could start writing regularly again.
Early last week I had the flu, so writing was out. I was having trouble following plots to Deep Space 9 episodes, so I'm really glad I didn't try. That could have been embarassing,
Wednesday I had my sign language class, which took up my whole evening. No really, it did. Three hours of no technology, just learning how to speak with my hands. It's difficult and exhausting. I went home and straight to bed.
Thursday and Friday were spent catching up from the flu, and studying for an impending sign language exam. There were dishes to do, and picking my husband's motorbike up from its 10,000 km maintenance, and other really important stuff that just had to get done.
Saturday and Sunday were spent preparing for Hurricane Sandy's arrival. Monday and Tuesday were spent dealing with Hurrican sandy's arrival.
This is why I like the idea of NaNoWriMo. It puts me out in the public, declaring I'm going to write 50,000 words and I'm going to do it on a deadline. Which means I'm now accountable to friends, family, co-workers, my chiropractor, and all those random people following me on Twitter and Facebook.
NaNoWriMo focuses the mind. There's a deadline, and goals, and I'm more invested in hitting those goals because it's an official event. For the month of November everyone knows that I am going to be spending all my free time writing. The gauntlet has been thrown. I'm responsible now to follow it through over the next 30 days.
Except for the first two Wednesdays. And several days of studying between now and then. I still have that that sign language course to complete, after all.
PS I'm still looking for ideas for stories! If you have any you'd like to share, please let me know in the comments, on Twitter, or wherever you may find me.
